Breakfast is served at The Texas White House
Jamie doesn’t like to serve a guest at our bed and breakfast the same breakfast twice, at least until they’ve stayed with us several times. This slightly spicy creation is included in a non-egg breakfast and is one of the recipes our guests ask us to repeat!
MEATY MORNING MUFFINS
1 lb. Bulk Sausage (we use regular, but Sage also works well)
2-4 ozs. Sun Dried Tomatoes
6 ozs. Velveeta – Cubed
6 English Muffins – Split
Brown sausage. While sausage is browning, soak sun dried tomatoes in boiling water until soft.
Dice dried, softened tomatoes and add to the sausage along with the Velveeta. Heat mixture until cheese is melted.
Lightly toast English Muffins. Generously spread meat mixture on English Muffin halves. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Yields: 12 Halves/24 Quarters

Bike Around The Texas White House
Ride your bike FROM our bed and breakfast, too! It’s just a short ride on residential streets to Fort Worth Trinity Trail, 15 miles each way of bike and jogging paths along the Trinity River. And we will store your bike safely while you’re not using it. Or we can even try to have a bike ready for rental from Panther City Bicycles, right around the corner on Magnolia. So, now you have no excuse to get your bike riding exercise and have a getaway weekend all at the same time!

Speaking of cattle (see our posting under Fort Worth museums) it’s time for the 114th Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo, the longest, continuously running livestock show in the United States. Beginning Friday, January 15 and running until February 7, the show involves food, western vendors, livestock judging and, of course, one of the major rodeos of the year. There are even special rodeo events separate from the rodeo itself. Except for the finals rodeo, there are plenty of tickets and plenty of parking. It’s great fun for a couple or the family; so, check the Stock Show site for a daily schedule, then call The Texas White House for your reservation. We are only 5-6 minutes from all the action. A lot of people think that the show is in the Fort Worth Stockyards, but it’s not. Except for the downtown parade on Saturday, January 16, all events are held at the Will Rogers Coliseum and Complex just northwest of our bed and breakfast. If you have time, plan to come during the week; mention this post, and we’ll give you a discount on your room. And definitely plan to spend two nights. There’s just too much to see for only one day!

Fort Worth Herd Re-Enacts History
Cattle were the first major industry in Fort Worth when cattle drives stopped here to re-supply and rest. The history and spirit of those days has been captured in the Cattle Raisers Museum which is now opening their new museum as an attraction in the new Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Either as a couple or with the family, you can spend an entire day seeing the history of the cattle industry in Texas, intriguing scientific exhibits and experiments and one of the features at the Omni Theater, all under one roof! Christmas and our Bed & Breakfast
In another of our posts I mentioned the idea of getting away from Christmas stresses by staying overnight at The Texas White House and doing your shopping from here. Here’s another idea on how to slow down this Christmas season and maybe, just maybe, enjoy the holiday more! Visit the Fort Worth Zoo! Before school lets out, the zoo can be a peaceful, romantic place to just stroll. You can even joke with your spouse about how one of the animals reminds you of one of your in-laws! Well, OK; maybe not. But I’ll bet you can find that peace and quiet that will remind you of a simpler Christmas time. Now, some better news! Stay one week night at our bed and breakfast, and we’ll buy you a ticket to the zoo; stay two nights, and we’ll buy you two tickets; so, you even get a discount on getting some peace and quiet!

Breakfast service at The Texas White House
Our breakfast strata can be made in individual bowls, like we do at the bed and breakfast, or in a casserole pan; so, this recipe makes a great breakfast during the holidays or anytime you have to serve a group. And since most of the work is done the night before, it’s easy to get ready in the morning.
SAUSAGE STRATA
Layer in each individual bowl:
Bread Cubes (Any Kind)
2 Links Smoky Sausage
¼ Cup Cheddar Cheese
Mix & Pour Over Layers:
6 Eggs
3 Cups Milk
2-3 Green Onions (Sliced) (Optional)
Lemon Pepper
Parsley Flakes
Cover and let sit overnight in refrigerator. Bake 45 minutes @ 325°. This dish comes out of the oven very puffy and impressive looking, but falls after a few minutes. So, serve immediately especially if in individual bowls.

Lone Star Room at The Texas White House
A former ghost storyteller from Galveston came to Fort Worth to stay at our bed and breakfast. So what, you’re thinking! But here’s “the rest of the story!” She and her husband booked the Lone Star room, our haunted room, without knowing it was haunted. The storyteller walked into the room and immediately sensed a presence there. Inside that room, there is a recently published book, “Ghosts in the Guest Room” by Olyve Abbott. As they were looking around the room at the various antiques, she noticed the book and recognized it. You see, she’s in it! As Sherlock Holmes used to say, “Fate laughs at coincidence.”

Christmas and The Texas White House
For most of us the Christmas holiday period is a stressful as well as enjoyable time. The crowds, the hectic shopping, even the parties can leave us wishing for a simpler, more relaxing Christmas.
