Taste of the NFL, Fort Worth-Style

Fort Worth hosts 2011 Super Bowl

You may have heard about Taste of the NFL, a contest which pits all NFL teams against each other to raise money to fight hunger around the country.  It culminates with a Taste of the NFL dinner the night before the Super Bowl, and this year that dinner will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center.  Between now and the end of November (it actually began last May), Cowboy greats from the past team with local chefs to do dinners at area restaurants to raise funds to support both the North Texas and Tarrant Area Food Banks.  You can find the list of participating restaurants at Taste of the NFL web site.  It will be a special meal serving a special cause and well worth the $80.00 per person price.

Here’s an idea for a special weekend!  Stay at our place and take that special someone to that weekend’s dinner.  We’ll donate a complimentary bottle of Texas wine during your stay for your support of the fundraiser.  And for those of you who are planning to come to attend the Super Bowl festivities the week before the game, here is one more event you can be a part of.

Super Bowl Volunteers

The Super Bowl needs volunteers.

If you live in this area, you are either very excited about next year’s Super Bowl here, or you’re planning to leave town!  If you are excited, there is a great way for you to be involved in a way very few people will be, as a volunteer.  Former Cowboy tailback Tony Dorsett is heading the volunteer effort, and literally thousands of people will be needed in hundreds of ways.  The best part is that you get to pick your preferred volunteer activity.  This won’t get you a ticket to the game, and more than likely you won’t get to meet any of the players for either team.  But you will be an important part of a tremendous effort to make Super Bowl XLV a success for Dallas and Fort Worth.  So, if you’re interested, go to the North Texas Super Bowl web site to register or email volunteers@northtexassuperbowl.com for all the information and registration materials.  Why, if you’re really lucky, you might be assigned to greet the Super Bowl guests who stay at The Texas White House!

Why Fort Worth for the Super Bowl?

Super Bowl comes to Texas

If you’re planning to come to the Super Bowl, you have probably already wondered where you should stay, not so much which hotel (think bed and breakfast!) but which city.  There are some factors to consider to make your trip more enjoyable.  The Metroplex, the entire Dallas-Fort Worth area, is the largest area to ever host the game.  Fort Worth alone is larger than five cities which have hosted the Super Bowl.  The actual football game is in Arlington which is just about equidistant from Dallas and Fort Worth and equally accessible from both cities.  In terms of what the cities have to offer outside of the Super Bowl activities, Fort Worth is much more Texan, Dallas is much more cosmopolitan.  In fact, Fort Worth has been called “the most Texan city” in the state.  So, if you are wanting to get a flavor of the Lone Star State while you’re here, you should keep that in mind.  Lastly, Dallas will be host to the National Conference team, and Fort Worth will host the American Conference team.  I will be expanding on this last point in a future blog; so, stay tuned!

Super Bowl Planning for Fort Worth

Fort Worth and Super Bowl XLV

Only die-hard football fans are thinking about the sport at this time of year, but there is a lot of planning and work going on in Fort Worth right now for next year’s Super Bowl at Cowboy Stadium.  Here are some things to think about if you’re considering coming here for the Super Bowl.  There are close to thirty official NFL Sponsors, large corporations which use the Super Bowl week to entertain their largest clients.  No, you are not one of those, no matter how much beer you drink!  But you can take advantage of what’s going on because many of the parties and attractions put on by these NFL Sponsors are open to the public.  So, here’s a planning tip to think about: come to Fort Worth, stay close to the center of town, go to the parties and activities the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the game.  Then head home Sunday in time to watch the Super Bowl on television (you’d be surprised how many Sponsor executives do exactly that!).  I’ll be posting additional information at least once a month about Super Bowl events, especially Fort Worth events, and how you might be a part of them.
